Once there was a plumtree .......

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

This is what I made from this plumtree.

The first one has got a handle combined with horn, showing a carved head inspired by one found in the oseberg burial.

I´ve always been very impressed by that head, as I think it shows how the vikings saw themselves.

So this is my way to honour those ancient artists.

The second knife is a plain sgian dubh made for a customer.

Cheers

Thomas

Very nice, purdy wood and both blades and carving are well executed. Well done!

How did you dry the wood? I have some plum wood in my seasoning pile, been there over 3 years. But whenever I cut a section and start shaping it I get a bunch of major cracks radiating out from the center few days later...

Thanks for your friendly comments.

How did you dry the wood?

To be honest - I didn´t really care foe a special treatment. I just cut it into pieces and put it in the attic for some years.
