MatthewBerry Posted June 21, 2014 Share Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) remember that the blade will curve down if quenched in oil, or up if quenched in water. So if you want the finished edge to be straight then curve the opposite way during forging. A rough guess is that will curve down about 3/8" in oil, and curl up a bit more than that if you quench in water. Been dealing with this in making my own seaxes. I like to trace the rough ground blade on paper, and then again after quenching so I can see exactly how much it changed.
