nickle silver

any one familer with what alloy/mix of nickle silver is most often sold to the knife making world?

I have used the C706 and the C715. I prefer the 715, it polishes out white/sliver and stays that way. The C706 has a yellow cast (more copper in the alloy) and you don't want to use them together, unless that is the look you're after. I suppose. You don't want to used the Leaded version, it's to make it machine easily, but you probably want to stay away from lead exposure.

The C706 and C715 actually look to be CuproNickels; Copper/Nickel alloys with no Zinc.

 

As I understand it, the Nickel Silvers are Copper/Nickel/Zinc alloys. I gather the 18% Nickel C752 is the one to use for the "silver" colour. The 10% Nickel stuff tends to look a bit brassy, with a definite yellow tinge.
