Not really a knife, an inlaid letter opener

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty happy how this turned out and I haven't done a blade in a good while so I thought I'd post this outside of show and tell. A project came my way for a letter opener with a cajun theme. And to make it more complicated, the patron is a quilter, so the body is a stylized sewing needle. Here is my attempt at fulfilling those needs:

Thanks everybody! And yes I made the pitch bowl from a series of 1" plate, collected pine sap from a local park, refined it and made the pitch and the tools are mostly from the coil spring from a minivan.

You have just made a family heirloom that will be fought over for generations, and the stories they will tell in years to come. I can hear it now, "this belonged to my Great Great Grandmother..............................

Awesome work!!!! bow.gif
