My first kitchen knife

Recommended Posts

Hey all, thought I'd show you one of my latest pieces.

This is the first kitchen knife that I have made, but I think that it turned out pretty decent!

The blade was forged out of 1" round W1 drill rod. (No power hammer, but luckily I had a willing striker. :P )

The handle is curly maple, with a brass guard.

The blade is ground to a zero edge, no secondary bevel.

It's 1/8" at the spine, (the customer requested that thickness) and 2 1/2" wide at the heel.

I heat treated with a water into oil quench, and the blade came out with a bit of an auto hamon.

However, you can't see it in these photos.

Thanks James! Yeah, I was really pleased how the handle turned out.

Nice, clean, work! I am sure your customer will love it. You should do a few more of these.
