recommended thermocouple probe for salt pot...

Recommended Posts

What do folks use for their high temp salts for a thermocouple? I've been using the long high temp type K and they work well but don't last. I have a feeling it's because I have a portable unit and I use it for too many things rather than just leaving the probe in the salt to avoid it oxidizing away...

i may be off but i belive ppl using salts usualy use a ss sleave so the probe is not in direct contact with the salts

could be that some do. I know at least one guy who runs a commercial operation just keeps them in all the time so they don't oxidize. I will probably just buy another of the long inconel type Ks and dedicate it and keep it immersed all the time. Or.. I can find a ss sleeve.

Scott, I use Omega's OMEGACLAD XL. If you call them to order (their sales engineers are great), you can have them bend a 90 in the probe to offset the connector from the "danger zone" above the salt. Here is a link to more info: http://www.omega.com/temperature/pdf/kmqxl_nmqxl.pdf -Doug
