Garry Keown
I got the action settled into the wood today and made a start on the bottom metal. 3 Von Gruff http://www.vongruffknives.com/ The ability to do comes with doing.
Gerhard Gerber
I found this clamp, bought a nice new plank and screwed it on there, realized very quickly it will need to move......so I bird-shit welded this contraption together. Need to make a plan with the little foot and it's adjustment, but so far so good. Also made two 2/3 sized blades of the ones I need to make to test the 1070's behavior during heat treat, one with bevels, one without so I can test if post-HT grinding is viable (for me)
Chris Christenberry
Gerhard, I don't think you need that tightening screw on the bottom of your clamp. If it's a full rectangle, the pressure from the adjustable clamp on top should pull the bottom up enough to lock the movement of the clamp for and aft. Slick idea, for sure. 1 Chris www.chrischristenberry.com WHEW!!! If I could only know now what I "thought" I knew back then.................... Alan Longmire
I made this little belt axe head. That crud on the poll is what happens in a coal forge. I usually wire-brush things before I take pics, but I didn't feel like it today.
AJ Chalifoux
Finally finished drawing out this billet. It's at 1x1.5x33" after I cut the ends off (started as 1.5x3x12). Now I need to cut, stack, re-weld, and draw it out all over again for crushed Ws. Edited February 23, 2020 by AJ Chalifoux Facebook
Chris Christenberry
I got my 6-3 Romex run from the breaker box, up to the attic, stapled to the rafter all the way over to the other side of my forging room for my welder. About 65 1/2 feet of Romex. Now to figure out how to hook 6-3 with a ground to an outlet that only has three connectors! Oh, and the 50 amp breaker only has two! So I'm fumbuzzled. Looks as if I'm going to have to pay my electrician $200 to hook it up! Edited February 23, 2020 by Chris Christenberry Chris www.chrischristenberry.com WHEW!!! Alex Middleton
The two on your breaker are for your hot wires, usually black and red. Your ground (bare copper or green) and neutral (white) will go to the appropriate bars inside your panel. The three on you plug will be for the two hots and the neutral, there should be a separate screw, usually tinted green, that you connect your ground to. It's pretty straightforward, but then again, I did manage to electrocute the crap out of myself a few weeks ago........ Joshua States
Alex has it right. Check the welder specifications. Generally they require 2 hot legs and a ground. In a main electric panel, the neutral and ground bars are tied together. They are separated in a subpanel. Take a photo of the inside of the panel and post it, so I can see what is going on in it. 1 “So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. One of them has a green dot next to it and I know that's for the ground. Would the White wire, go into that same hole along with the copper ground wire since it's Neutral and the Red and Black are both hot? 8 minutes ago, Joshua States said: Take a photo of the inside of the panel and post it, so I can see what is going on in it. Chris Christenberry
Okay, so that will wire the outlet. At the breaker box, I should hook the Red and Black wires to the breaker and the White and bare copper to the bundle of ground wires? Right or wrong? Chris www.chrischristenberry.com WHEW!!! Joshua States
There should be separate bars for the neutral and ground wires. If the two bars are bonded in the box, it doesn't matter which one you tie to. That's why I want to see the photo. So I can see if the two are bonded or not. 1 “So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. Chris Christenberry
My electrician came by today to address a problem with our Heat and Air unit. Asked him to show me how to hook up this 220 wiring "all legal and proper". We discussed leaving a whole lot of extra wire on the outlet end so we could come back later (when I have the funds) to put in a sub panel as has been suggested. But this will work fine until that time comes. Got it all hooked up and checked out and my Tombstone turns on, no problem. Thanks for all the help, i.e. suggestions/comments/insults and kindly curmudgeon-ing. I know I'm a pain in the patoot, sometimes, but how else am I going to learn? Now I've just got to learn how to arc-weld! Edited February 25, 2020 by Chris Christenberry Chris www.chrischristenberry.com WHEW!!! Jeremy Blohm
A few days ago or maybe even a week(?) I showed a wrought iron san mai bowie I am working on. Gerhard Gerber
Heat treated the two 1070 test blades and a 14C28N fork last night. Both blades stayed straight, with and without bevels, but somehow the blank without bevels feels harder, might just be some decarb. I know I shouldn't add variables, but I couldn't help myself.... Saw a trick on some random video, wrapped the blade in binding wire in a diamond pattern and used those as a guide for my clay alternative. .....Suspect I got some stonking hamons One temper cycle last night, will do another after work and a quick etch. Garry Keown
Inlet of action and bottom metal finished. I took an old barrel to be slightly re-shaped to conform to the pattern Sean sent and will pick it up next week so it will be back to some knives till then . 1 Von Gruff http://www.vongruffknives.com/ The ability to do comes with doing.
