Joshua States
I'm gonna have to make me one of those folder grinding jigs. A buddy of mine was talking about getting his daughter a knife for her 8th birthday next year and he was hinting about a folder. Today I got some forge time in. Knocked out a few more kitchen blades. 2 “So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. This morning I moved my grinder and stuff from my shed to my new workplace. Had to rewire the VFD and last time I dismantled it I forgot to mark the wires . Took a good 30 minutes just to sort it out and make sure it doesn't blow up. Feels got to finally be back at it. Now I need some projects! Good to hear! ...although I don't understand having a lack of projects; how can that be? -Brian

Joël Mercier
Is a 5.75" fillet knife a thing? Dammit, I thought I got this. Maybe went a *little* too far on the flexibility test. The grain is excellent, at least...

Faye
A homemade power hammer made its way into my shop last week. It is about 20 pounds of hammer force. I got it bolted to the floor today, and all the leaks in the propane line fixed. So I'm all ready to try making my own damascus.

It looks like those are intended to be drawing dies. If you use this to set the welds on your billet, put the billet inline with the dies for the first few heats. Try to hit in the center of the billet and move across to the edges. 1 “So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. I'm thinking something like this: Where the dark grey is a plate welded to the back of the die and the orange piece is a tab that you flip over the front to hold it onto the round die. 3 RIP Bear....be free! as always peace and love billyO

What yeast did ya use that will tolerate that much alcohol? Actually, most yeast will handle up to 10-11%. Once you get over that, then you need to start looking at special yeast. But the yeast I used is Safale05. And started batch #2 - Irish (bribery of the wife) Stout -much more your style @Alan Longmire . SG is 1.051 (but I have a LOT of specialty grains so it's probably pretty high in dextrins) and only about 37 IBU. I have to admit that I am not much of a dark beer drinker, but this one... Normally I always take a sip of the wort out of the hydrometer jar. I know, pretty gross... usually. This one, I took a sip...and then another...and then another. WOW! Smoky, peaty, cocoa, toast. It was all there. If I hadn't hopped it, it may have become "scotch" .
Garry Keown
So I have this little bench top lathe on the way. Lots of little metal bits I may need and can also do the fishing priests etc on it. 300mm/1 foot bed so plenty for all that I might need it for with the local engineers lathe not too far away if big stuff is needed. You will be fine with that as it is for a while. Eventually, you are going to want something else (that's just the nature of this hobby.....) and you will get it. In the meantime, this is probably going to up your game significantly and it will do about 90% of what you need it to do. I made a lot of Damascus on our 25 pound LG hammer with just drawing dies. I flattened the faces for folding with an angle grinder while the billet was still hot by placing it on the anvil and using a Pritchel hold-down I made from some scrap steel. (I still do this) I used a hot cutting chisel to cut the billet and folded it over the anvil edge. Don't worry. You got this Faye.
