Joshua States
I took some time and made a handle fluting layout jig. One side of the wheel is laid out for 4 or 8 flutes, the other side for 6 flutes. Then I did a little experiment with wax carving a model and sand casting. After that was done, I did some bronze casting. Garry Keown
Decided to have a play on the power hammer this morning so the remains of my fathers 1950's era wrecking bar was the starting point for somethin g with a bit of persian influence. Got it flattened and rough shaped the went through the normalising before marking on the desired shape and going to the grinder. still a bit thick at 3/16 full so will take it back to about 5/32 before contuing with build. 2 Von Gruff http://www.vongruffknives.com/ The ability to do comes with doing. Faye
My little sister wanted to get the big sis a knife block for Christmas, but couldn't find one in town. She enlisted my equipment operating skills (much to her chagrin) and we put one together ourselves from red oak and black walnut. In this project we discovered neither of us are particularly adept at woodworking. It is fully funtional, not very square or flat, and held together with copious amounts of glue and shear stubborn will power. It was a fun little break from knife orders, though both of us are glad we got it done today. Edited December 28, 2021 by Faye
Garry Keown
Got the persian ready for heat treat and have it in the tempering oven for a couple of 2 hour treatments, so will work on the copper bolster for the seax this afternoon. Had to replace the resin ivory one which cracked and was discarded. Von Gruff http://www.vongruffknives.com/ The ability to do comes with doing. Garry Keown
Been a very pleasing afternoon with the new copper bolster fitted to the Seax blade. There is a bit of a fiddle to get them fitted tight and then grinding the shape is time consuming as any who have ground copper will know with 3 to 5 seconds on the grinder and at east an equal time in the water bucket to cool the copper and ease the fingers. with the handle fitted it was time to polish the bolster to 2000 grit and then to get the curve back spalted buckeye bolsters ready for the san mai blade. Epoxy and into the clamps for the night. 3 Von Gruff http://www.vongruffknives.com/ The ability to do comes with doing.

Francis Gastellu
Today I made clay slurry, straw ashes, and spent an inordinate amount of time trying to find the optimal way to pack the content of this little bundle. #ihavenoideawhatimdoing
Garry Keown
A bit of work on the Persian blade. The hamon didn't show as well as I wanted so polished it out and went with standard blade. Got the bolster and pommel on and pre shaped. do it this way as the brass takes a lot of heat and shapeing it after the complicated handle scales are on risks damaging the bond between all the spacers. With that done it was on to the scales and I chose a piece of spalted buckeye and added spacers at each end so there will be the brass bolster with 4 spacers (blue, brass, blue and another brass) and the same at the pommel end. Makes for a trying time to get it all epoxied together. 1 Von Gruff http://www.vongruffknives.com/ The ability to do comes with doing.
Gilbert McCann
Sunday I gave myself a couple Christmas presents. I've been wanting to get organized this really helped. A tool cart and small tool box just for knife making drill bits and milling bits.
Alan Longmire
Tomorrow I am going to try to rid the shop of gremlins. I've ruined every folder I've tried to make for the last month. At least today's attempt went south in the first hour instead of at the last second. Gotta find those little buggers and feng their shui right the heck out the doors! 2
Alex Middleton
I hate to say it Alan, but better you than me! I'm coming to the end of the blade work on a san-mai hunter/utility that so far has come out almost perfectly. The last thing I need is one of your gremlins deciding to take a trip up to the frozen north.

Gilbert McCann
Finally got to the knife I glued up Christmas eve. Done with grinder work on to hand sanding today and probably some void filling since it is Spalted maple.
Jeff Amundson
I brought a laser into the smithy and noticed no time warp. It should help me create symmetry around a centerline and locate the pivot hole.

Gary LT
Have this one put together just need final sanding/polishing/touché mark. Joël Mercier
Now that looks like a sturdy little pocket knife Gary. On my side, I got two k tip chefs ready for pre HT grind. Probably going to try a hamon on at least one. My last hamon on 26c3 went all funky so I'll try to sort this out. I also have an idea for a cool 3 part sculpted bolster to go on these. Tips for the new makers: 1. If you look at the tang transition, you'll see a bar of different color. That's because I thinned down the tang with a carbide file guide and a mill bastard file's edge, just a few mils, to make bolster fitting easier and cleaner. No gaps visible this way. The rest of the tang will be thinned down on the grinder. 2. I keep the tip square until the very end of the final grind. It's less likely you'll overheat the tip during HT and grinding. Then I slowly grind the tip back pointy, with lots of water. Edited January 2, 2022 by Joël Mercier
