Alan Longmire
Those look good! Like the start of a production run. How is the silicone pipe holding up to the manifold? Still good?

Jaro Petrina
These big knives eat the belts though and I cannot get a good grind without a fresh belt. The 4 meter belt actually held quite well for some, but I have destroyed two through my own stupidity. The 36 grit one cost 40 bucks. Ouch. 60 grit are cheaper, but not much. 2X72 belts at 36 grit now cost 15 bucks. Hell........
Gerhard Gerber
Not my shop, but a much better one...... Yesterday after work I dropped by a fellow maker's house, bloody shame because we live in the same suburb, and we've been threatening for 2 years. He's a retired engineer of some sort, and I want as much to see his shop and his bonsai, one of the more impressive local collections that I've seen. Not that his shop is to be sneezed at, he's got everything you need, and then there's the stuff he's built. Two items that stood out is a bandsaw he built to saw stumps into planks. Guess you can call it a tire saw since that's what the blade runs on, complete with mag rims! He got a tiny little oven that a retired dentist used to melt gold, turned that into a little tempering oven specifically for folders. Makes me feel like a lazy knuckle-dragger He knows how many knives he's made, and how much he's earned from them. I've lost count a bit, but I do believe I've made more knives, and for sure not earned even half as much.
Joshua States
After another failed crucible run, I decided to put this thing together. I only had two bolts, three washers, two nuts, and this weird piece of sheet metal left over. I seem to remember someone saying I should grease something or the other on this saw, but I cannot remember what, or where the grease goes on. 1 “So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. HSJackson
You can check/change the gear oil in the gearbox under that flat plate near the belt pulley. The oil in mine was nasty looking and smelly from the factory.

The oil in mine was nasty looking and smelly from the factory. Yeah, that flat plate right above the motor. Mine was packed with what appeared to be asphalt. REALLY thick grease. But then it was made in 1983. I got it in 2002. I scraped most of that old hardened stuff out and replaced it with 90W gear oil and white lithium grease in 2019. Made no discernable difference in operation, but it made me feel like I was doing something for it.

Jaro Petrina
Tool for serial grinds - I m supposed to make quite few military knives for our airborne veteran club. I am putting the tool on linear table (that cost 170 bucks!). The vice is local scrapyard score. It weights 60 pounds ! and there is nothing wrong with it!

Gary LT
Jaro, I remember when you built that forge, I was really impressed and wished I had the space to do something similar….but I certainly don’t have the skills. This is an awesome vise / score…….Is there a manufacturer name or model # on it? Thanks, GARY LT 1 "I Never Met A Knife I Didn't Like", (Will Rogers)

Needs to clean inside out. Well aside of mushroomed tip OK. I can imagine this would go through chainmail. 8 mil thick, build like a bayonet.
Gerhard Gerber
Running battle with the transport company importing my new grinder, collected exactly a week ago in a town 2 hours' drive from the depot, at least they've found it in the mean time.......... Just had to pay an invoice double the initial estimate, and send a bunch of documentation they received on the 9th already I have a huge issue with unfinished knives, have several of this waiting, but I believe a pause & reset (corporate jargon ) is in order. No more knife making until the new grinder is in place, new burner is fitted to old forge and ribbon burner forge is built. That should take care of the rest of 2023
Bob Ouellette
In anticipation of getting my new forge built, I cut a bunch of stock and ground some patterns to forge to. My goal is to get 26 knives forged before my next foot surgery in April. I also turned a couple of pens from bog oak and mild steel. 2 Bob O "When I raise my flashing sword, and my hand takes hold on judgment, I will take vengeance upon mine enemies, and I will repay those who haze me. Bob Ouellette
I got the first 2 of the 26 banged out in about an hour and started on one of the 4 bread knives before I ran out of propane. They're not great forgings, but not awful either. First time lighting a forge in over 2 years. The two blades with the pattern in forging to. 4 Bob O "When I raise my flashing sword, and my hand takes hold on judgment, I will take vengeance upon mine enemies, and I will repay those who haze me.
