JJ Simon
Yes, 2" from the blast but at the top of the hearth. Alan has it right. And looks like he has solved the problem. You will get it right next time. No doubt.

Immaculate blacksmith shop. He did the sugar loaf craft festivals for years. Carson Sams learned from him and has moved into the Sugar loaf festival and is who I learned about the hammer in from a few years ago. The entrance fee is a handmade piece of work that is raffled off at the end and that pays for the food and drinks.

Kreg Whitehead
Finished this one yesterday. I may put this one up for sale. What do you guys think this wood is. The guy that gave it to me say its white walnut....is there even such a thing? I thought it looked more like spalted maple. It has a fairly unpleasant odor when sanding.
Jonathan Silas
It could be walnut with sapwood still attached..... I saw a stair banister come in with that.
Pieter-Paul Derks
This weekend I finally tackled along overdue project, building a light tent. it is made from trashbags stapled to a (very crooked) wooden frame. The lights are 6000k daylight bulbs, and they were the most expensive part of the build, but boy are they nice, I'm considering getting extra for use in the workshop. Unfortunately now I can't blame the weather anymore for taking bad pictures. Attached is a picture I just took, with no editing done. ( However I did ofcourse select the best picture to show you all.) 1 http://mefecit.nl/

Joshua States
Nice one Pieter! Is that what they call "Steam punk"? Anyway the photo looks great and so does that sheath. What's inside that sheath? “So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. I've been there before.” The only bad experience is the one from which you learn nothing. Jon Cook
Foarj!!! (dropped D sustained minor chord) And a handful of blanks that will get annealed if this thing pulls enough heat once it's dry tomorrow. I'm going for a simple design somewhere between a kwaiken and a pukko. A couple simple edc blades I can barter with to feed the habit.

As a kid I collected everything I could find, I have boxes full of bones, shells and stones. The real challenge is not using too many props and overwhelming the knife. The knife is a '''fantasy'' seax that I just finished, I'll probably post it in Show and tell/for sale forum soon 2 http://mefecit.nl/
Zeb Camper
I really like that seax! It's got swag! I need to make a lighting box someday myself. I usually pack up my finished blade and walk into the woods to a few spots I have for taking pictures. Lighting has to be perfect. clear or partially cloudy at just before dusk. Jan Ysselstein
JJ those are beautiful..I am curious about the range of widths and thicknesses (of stock) these tongs will hold? Is it 1 tong does it all, or do you need to know what material to make them for. In my shop, I am looking at buying ( or making ) a small heat treating furnace, and new camera. I have finished the last set of crucibles ( 6) for another post I am hoping to finish in a few weeks. I will fire them at a higher temperature so they can be preshrunk and get really strong. If time permits, I will finish the new crucible furnace(s). I have created a sequence for making a wootz blade which requires me to successfully be able to weld the wootz material ( which I cannot do yet with confidence ) oh oh. Kreg Whitehead
This knife was a few firsts for me. First kitchen blade. First w2. First blade I was able to cut out ground and heat treat the same day. I have heat treated it twice since then. I quenched this blade in hyd fluid. I am not sure how strong the hamon is gonna be but it looks lithe I have some thermal banding?? I wish the lines showed up better. It is amazing how hard it is to capture these things. Gonna break out my new 36 grit zirconium's for the machete tonight.

Don Abbott
Shop Build update: Been a long, wet winter, but I have conduit and 2-2-2-4 wire buried from house to shop. Got the 100A panel hung in the shop and even have a couple circuits wired. Last night I hole-sawed through my deck headers, the brick wall, and my joist header (Spyder hole saws are awesome). Pipe is in place. Taking off early today to feed the wire through the LB and into my house panel. Hope to be energized and have some lights on tomorrow. Jon Cook
Fired the forge for the first time. Had to fuss with it to keep the little torches from going out, and the front burner needs a little adjusting. But it works. Got a nice orange glow, and a little dragon's breath. Got the first of five pieces annealed and draw filed as well.
