Don Abbott
Shop build update: Ordered 1700 linear feet of ¾ x 10 white pine siding lumber from a local sawmill and brought it home in my son-in-laws death trap flatbed: The trees were cut on the back side of the first mountain you can see in the background behind the truck. Got it dry stacked and it came out to over 2000' feet. The guy that cut it for me said he just wanted me to be happy. Well, I am... I'll let 'er breath til summer and by then I should have my doors and windows finished. I have power now, so that makes things a whole lot nicer. I've got the overhead lights in and one 120 receptical circuit. Little at a time...

Kreg Whitehead
A couple kitchen knives here in w2. I epoxied some scales on a 3rd last night....hopefully get her shaped and in oil tonight. I may edit in some cable I was smashing last weekend.....until I got a blister the size of a quarter. lol Do you think I still need to flux the cable at this point?? Alan Longmire
Yes. If you don't flux it it will be full of little scale inclusions everywhere you see dark spots in that picture. Unless you are runnimg your forge on the very reducing side, that is.
Kreg Whitehead
I am kind of surprised that I am not gaining any width after smashing it flat. Its still about 3/8" thick...but is pretty much the same width as I started with. I am gonna try a little patina experiment on my latest blade tonight.....hopefully have some pics tomorrow. GEzell
A little sneak peek at one of the projects on my bench, 27" of sharp pointiness in 80crv2, with the handle fit and roughly shaped from hard maple... I'll be cutting the fullers tomorrow, wish me luck. 1 George Ezell, bladesmith" How much useful knowledge is lost by the scattered forms in which it is ushered to the world! Kreg Whitehead
Gonna be interesting to see how this patina job turns out.....this is the second coat on this side of the blade. Much to my surprise it etched the soft steel about the same as the hard. I will edit in a pic when its done...and a pic of what it looked like after lemon. I was going for an auto hamon and did care for how it polished out. Edited March 15, 2018 by Kreg

Gerald Boggs
Following the advice Mr. Coop of SharpByCoop provided over at BladesForum, I built this light box. Ron Benson
You have all the lights on top. I suggest cutting out the sides so that you can place tissue paper on both sides. Then move one light to each side. They work great when using the natural light of the sun, a bit of a hassle when using bulbs. In this case, I'm taking advantage of the reflective qualities of the white sides. Added to that, is the use of mirror tape that I can move as needed to control the light. Also, you can't see it, but the front is mirror tape, when I'm not photographing from a low angle, I replace it with a wider section. Plus, with this, storage is easy. I just cut the tape on the corners and stack the bits on top of my bookshelf. I could write more, but better to read Coop's posts, he shows some very cool techniques.
Gerald Boggs www.geraldboggs.com
