Wes Detrick
Finally, a knife I know how to classify. This one is just a skinner, wide bladed with a nice fat belly. The steel is 1075, differentially hardened, with a beaten copper guard, domed copper pins, and Honduran Rosewood. OAL: 9.25 inches (23.5 cm) Blade Length: 4.25 inches (10.8 cm) Please let me know what you think. Thanks! Robert D.
Its clean, its simple, and the copper and rosewood go perfect with the finish on the blade. I would say you nailed it if your goal was simple yet beautiful. http://robertjamescustoms.tumblr.com/
Bob Hewitt
That's a beautiful piece, man, I'd be proud to have that on my belt. I really like copper fittings on a working knife, or any knife come to that, and your piece really wears it well. Great job, that leatherwork ain't none too shabby either! Timothy Artymko
It's so clean! And the subtle features of the beaten copper and differential hardening really catch my eye.... some mental notes to be taken Great work!
Brian Dougherty
I like it Wes I have a question about your leather work if you don't mind. When I have tried to use a stamped pattern like that on a wrapped sheath, I have had issues with the pattern starting to look a bit washed out as it goes around the bend created when I fold the sheath over. Basically, the depth of the pattern becomes non-uniform as the surface of the leather gets stretched a bit at the bend. It's not terrible on my work, but noticeable. I don't see any sign of that on your sheath. Is this something you actively work to avoid? (It may just be something I am doing wrong) -Brian
Austin_Lyles
I don't know if Wes does something special, but my old mentor just told me to "whack it harder". I still get a little stretch but it's hardly noticeable.

Justin Mercier
I will admit that my first thought upon seeing the blade and logo was "hail hydra" =) I think the copper rivet in the sheath really completes the package. --- Justin "Tharkis" Mercier www.tharkis.com

Wes Detrick
Thank you everyone! I really appreciate all of the positive feedback. I like it Wes I have a question about your leather work if you don't mind. When I have tried to use a stamped pattern like that on a wrapped sheath, I have had issues with the pattern starting to look a bit washed out as it goes around the bend created when I fold the sheath over. I don't see any sign of that on your sheath. Is this something you actively work to avoid? (It may just be something I am doing wrong) It really is exactly as Austin said. I beat the hell out of that stamp to put it none to lightly. I make sure that the leather is wet(not dripping or pooling water on it, but wet) and grip the stamp firmly, and give it three hard whacks with my hammer. I should also note that I tool leather on a 27 lbs granite surface plate, that is directly above one of the posts of my work bench. There is no give to it at all. And like Austin said, you will get some stretch, but almost not noticeable. I will admit that my first thought upon seeing the blade and logo was "hail hydra" =) I think the copper rivet in the sheath really completes the package.
