Just finished this one up...I had started a thread over in the hot work showing the making of this tanto if you are interested. It is also available for sale in the for sale portion of the forums. w1 steel with a basswood shirasaya and an African Blackwood mekugi. I think it has what would be considered a hitatsura hamon but I am no expert. Please tell me what you think about it and feel free to critique so I can make the next one better

Fire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Crom is your god, Crom and he lives in the earth. Once, giants lived in the Earth, Conan. And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Crom, and they took from him the enigma of steel. Crom was angered. And the Earth shook. Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just men. Not gods. Not giants. Just men. The secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle, Conan. You must learn its discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts.

Thanks John and no worries! That's my next project to tackle...hopefully I'll start this week. Getting that edge nice and centered and even is gonna be tough but I think I can do it.

Yes it can be done, as I have see the geometry of the blade and if your careful you can adjust it purely by the stones.

that is the correct name for the type of hamon, as far as I know. Also, looks great. I love the low manganese 1075 for larger blades. I have convinced myself that you can get a good bit of lath marthesite with it, which should be great for toughness.

W2 for smaller blades. I have some extra-pure crucible W1 that I am holding for just the right project, though.

i am not an expert on that sort of blade/fitting (Japanese) so I can only say that it looks very good to me.

Thanks for the kind words guys I'm glad you like it!

Kevin- I plan on using some low mn 1075 soon on a sword...I like it because it's easy to forge, gives a spectacular hamon, is tough, and polishes rather quickly compared to W2
