Trouble With Histroically Inspired Bowie Construction

Ok, so the potassium permanganate worked well. If took the edge off of the stark white, and made it look aged. It's actually a touch darker than it looks in this photo. I've got a sheath to make, and then in calling this one done!

I stain nearly every piece of antler I use. I like to start with an alcohol-based aniline amber colored dye, let that dry completely and go in with a dark oil based stain and then stand back from there

About the handle. I agree, it doesn't quite look right but by no means bad. I think it's really great work. I might consider 2 things. 1; sand down the dark area to bring out a little more white and lessen the sharp contrast. 2; Carve something into the bone in the dark area as to have it framed by the high contrasting surrounding dark part.
