"Broke Bladesmith"- Acquiring the tools to begin bladesmithing on a budget

Recommended Posts

I began writing this book a while ago, after I had accumulated the basic tools to begin comfortably doing this art. What I found, and as a lot of you (especially more experienced guys) know, top of the line equipment isn't necessary to start out doing this. After all, humans have been making exceptional blades for several millennia without gas or electricity.

So with having gotten the stuff I needed fairly recently- either through building, scavenging, or finding exceptionally inexpensively, I put together a small guide on getting the equipment I need.

This book is more or less written to the me of four years ago.

I do have it up on my website for sale, but being that I learned a lot of what's in there from you guys here on the forum, I suppose it's time to pay it forward. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

I wrote this chapter-by-chapter in the form of email articles ("join the club" on my website), and I'm doing another one on my understanding of basic steel metallurgy and heat treat; I just sent out one on Normalizing, and the details of hardening should be next week. http://www.brokebladesmith.com

God bless and thank you all!

Very true. I've found the more I learn, the less I realize I know

It took me far longer to learn that than you did Caleb, so you are ahead of the curve on that one :) BTW, the link to your website just links back to this thread ;)
