steven smith
Good mechanical fitting of parts may be the only thing that will stand up to the test of time, epoxy is fairly new to the world of knives, people have done just fine for many thousands of years with just cutlers resin-like glues if any glue at all. Purely mechanical fitting is something I try to accomplish in every blade, though I will still use glue occasionally. Like flooding the handle of a miniature with CA glue because the small thin handles can be fragile otherwise. If if you are concerned with water getting into your handle just use synthetic or stabilized handle materials, water can make the scales of a knife pull away from the tang. however, there are some woods which are very resistant to water. It might even make sense to use wax in a handle to fill any voids where water could not be easily dried. But that's a new crazy thought to me.
