hey guys this isn't a blade but I thought I might share some of these forged steel strikers I've made. I got an order for some a few days ago and I really enjoyed making them. I made the smaller one for myself and the larger one was part of an order. Tell me what you guys think!

Certainly on my to-do list. Was planning on leaf spring steel or 1075 off cuts. Q. does the edge need to be a 90 for the best sparks?

Well done on these. :) Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot guys! Is the titanium harder to get a spark from? And I'm not sure. I don't think it matters too much about The angle but this happens to be square. Just make sure it is hardened and I temper mine to about the hardness of a file. Also make sure the striking surface is ground clean! Scale won't spark.

Jeff:  Great symmetry and form! Very nice.

Chris C-S: most hardenable steels will throw sparks, but in my experience spring and 1075 are only so-so.  I get the best (and seemingly hottest) sparks from 1095 and other hypereutectoid steels.  Also, I don't temper them, when I use 1095, I just get the striking portion up to critical like Jeff shows in his picture and quench in water.

I'd also like to add that I am willing to take orders for this if you guys are interested. They will be $25 shipped in the USA.

If you guys want I can also post a tutorial on how I make these next time I go out and forge some.

I choose to temper mine because as quenched steel is just too brittle. There is a good chance it will break if you drop it on the ground. I only temper at a really low temperature and it still throws wonderful sparks but has a lot more toughness in case you drop it.

Yes please Jeff. Not one to turn down a WIP.
