Michael Chaddock
I am not sure if it is the right stuff, but it almost looks like you could make a cutlers anvil out of that giant chunk....
Jeremy Blohm
So i thought I made a topic about these rifle barrels but I cant find it. Anyways I finaly got around to using the sections I cut off and opened up. Here is the san-mai with O1 core and 2 thin strips of 15n20 and the rifle barrel as the outer layers. Looks like Alan is right again. I believe the rifle barrels are 4340 or some kind of nickel steel because you can barely see the 15n20.
Michal Plezia
There is an interesting article about NC11LV/D2 heat treatment. It is in Polish, but maybe google translator will be enough to understand the key information. And there are some useful charts http://blog.melontools.com/obrobka_cieplna/stal-nc11lv-wg-melona/nc11lv/
