Just curious, since most of the Musso-type bowies with brass strip spines use a strip bent into a U-shaped channel. I like your way better. I've made a Musso and did just that. The original "Iron Mistress" had a flat strip so that was the direction that I went just to be more accurate. Gary ABS,CKCA,ABKA,KGA
Jonas Liebel
Great project! May I ask you how you did the Handle inlay, did you cut it out with a router or by hand? Or do you know any good tutorial for handle inlays by chance? >>> Check out my Youtube channel <<<
Hoy's Forge
Looking Great !I love the Hollywood Bowie style ! Best of luck on selling them. I too work in " forge heated" shop do you notice a real difference in workable time per heats in this frigid weather ? Seems to me the stock is affected and cools of a lot quicker. Last week I was out forging at 19 F and after 5 hrs of work my anvil was not even warm to the touch! www.hoyfamily.net Isa 54:16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.Lu 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. I placed the handle blocks in an x/y vice on my drill press and cut the inlays out with a 3/4" straight router bit. I then used some 3/4" x 1/4" nickel silver for the inlays. By doing this I only had to grind the ends of each inlay into a half round which I freehanded on my 2"x72". By starting with 1/4" thick inlays it gave me enough material to grind the inlayed handle into a contoured oval shape. I didn't notice it as much today as I was making Damascus on my press and no matter what the temp the dies heat up quickly. Gary Mulkey
While waiting for my Damascus billet it heat up I got in a little time shaping the handles for my project. The next step will be the guards and the scalloped ferrules on the front of the handles. 1 Gary ABS,CKCA,ABKA,KGA
