So I get this Chrome plated box in the mail... A duct tape clad box.

I open it up and this letter is inside  20180830_185655.jpgand this wicked cool puzzle thing is inside.

Here it is solved. 20180830_184006.jpg

Ol' Alex, you are a sly one. I saw all those clever words you put in to trip me up like "magic" and "forum.com" and some others.

No problem Zeb, I'm glad you liked it.

No fair though, I see you didn't pay close enough attention to clue #2, and skipped right to the hammer in clue #4! Lol :D  Next time I'll have to choose my words more carefully.  Also, I apparently need to invest in some stronger epoxy.

In order to get it apart in 1 piece, the wheels would have said;

KITHDagger

Bladesmith

sForum.com

MagicTheme

KITHDesign

edAndHandc

raftedByAl

exMiddleto

nMiddlevil

leMichigan

Like I said, it's never as simple as it seems.  5 of the wheels had the same letter on them twice.  Only 100,000 different ways to get the right combination!

Well I'm still stumped then. How else would it have come apart?

And btw your "hit it with a hammer" clue didnt help with the epoxy lol.

Yup.  Definitely have to choose my words more carefully next time lol.

The puzzle box is called a cryptex.  This was the first one I've ever made, and it was almost as difficult  (with my tools) as the knife was.  If you look at the wheels, each one has a groove inside it with a small notch/keyway.  When the correct combination is entered, the keyways all line up and create an open path for the pins on the inner cylinder to slide through and it comes apart into 2 pieces.  Slip some of the rings back over the PVC and you'll see it.

The hammer clue was meant to draw your attention to the 4 pins holding the inner cylinder together.

Regardless of the methods, you got the job done and that's all that matters!

Sounds good man.  Just make sure you get everything lined up right before the epoxy sets.  Otherwise it'll take a miracle to get it back apart!
