Here's a look at the pattern after a rough grind and quick etch.  It will get a lot more contrast after H/T'ing, a proper hand sanding  and a full etch.

I got a late  start  today due to  the cold temps here but did manage to get the handle  components roughed out today before knocking off.

Handle: ironwood burl

Guard:  416

Handle Spacer:  Damascus sandwiched by nickel  silver

Butt Cap & Pommel Nut:   nickel  silver

I don't know that I can say I prefer one over the other.

That is so impressive!  Here I am happy to do a simple low layer count Damascus.  I still learn lots from reading of the master's work.

Love how you have taken the time to post all the steps necessary to accomplish this task thank you very much. That said I have attempted this pattern and I got to the point of the last weld up and decided  not to turn it on the bias but to just cut it and stack it in a 4 way again for a different pattern with your help I was able to get this far thanks very muck now on to the tiles hope it works out lol
