Thought fer the day, / add yours if you like

Recommended Posts

There's the quick and efficient way of doing things, or more exciting, challenging and time consuming ways.

Like for example if you want a knife, you can go buy one at a store. It's cheap, does the job fine. Or you can learn to forge one yourself, play with fire, bash metal, and craft various other materials and 20 years later, you will still some day be making that perfect knife that you always wanted to make. But you've had lots of fun (and frustration) along the way.

"He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”

The pen is not mightier than the sword. The pen does not win battles, nor does the sword write poetry. Mighty is the hand which knows when to pick the pen and when to pick the sword.

A ways back in time when I was in a low spot in my life

my only friend in the world was an old hound dog.

one evenin we were havin a beer or three,..... or more, ( he was a good ol' hound,  he liked beer )

Well you can understand my surprise when he spoke these words to me.

He said my friend this ol' world is a tough place to be in and Iv'e

got some philosophical words fer you to chew on, and they've always worked fer me'''''

If you can't eat it,

And if you can't fight it,

And if you can't fuck it,

Just piss on it  !!

And on that day it occurred to me,   just how smart an ol' hound can be

This board is refreshing apolitical, so this is a bit risky for me to post.  However, the current political climate has driven me to coin another phrase:

"I have the right to be offended by anything you do.  However, I choose to waive that right because I am willing to assume you meant no harm."

I think all of us lose sight of the fact that simplicity is one of the

greatest things that we all too often forget to appreciate, be it pleasure, or the process of work.

The K.I.S.S. principal applies to all things great and small ......................;)

( posted this  earlier in a reply to Zeb Camper, but I think it goes here as well )

Josh, I don't know how many times I have told someone something close to that about building a forge.

Forges, knives & other projects, jobs, relationships, the list goes on.

From my fathers school teacher in 1935 which was  a great inspiration to him and has been my own understanding as long as I can remember.

The good book says the Lord won't give you more than you can bear. However there is times when we are speaking I have to remind him I am almost to that point!!
