Got some time off, so I started finishing the forged blanks done.

Pairing knife 8 3/4" long with a 4 3/4" blade.  blade is 3/4" wide & 3/16" thick  made out of 1085

Heavy duty utility chef knife. 

9" overall 5" blade 1 1/8" wide & 3/16 thick 1085

This one I left the tig welded scales top and bottom proud, nice for grip. Has a convex beved edge.

Chefs knife

10 1/4" overall 7" blade 1/8" thick 1 1/4" wide   1085

convex bevel edge , almost balanced, slightly to handle (just barely)

Bit out of sequence although, just finished this one. Working on getting my forging cleaner. Made from a file as you could guess. 

Am freehand grinding all of these as in no rest, no jig.

Nice. I like that shape on the chef's knife. Tough thing to do a full integral handle with high finsh

Thank you so much for the kind words sir. Working towards more brute de forge with less grinding as well. Both most definitely have their challenges.

Tim, when I said bomb proof, I meant a solid, can handle anything thrown at it, strong design.... it was meant as a compliment.  I haven't tried to tackle an integral yet, so my hat off to you!

new cutter done, hand forged from 01 tool steel. Scales HSS blended in & contoured smooth. 

13 1/2" overall

7 3/4" cutting edge

3/16" spine convex beveled to a razor blade 

2 1/2" blade 

not going full polish on this, just keeping the hours down.

have two more to finish up one similar the other not as much.

Thank you so much for those sentiments Steve. I have recently worked for free with two blacksmiths to get some experience. Wanting to find a bladesmith in the Tucson area to learn from.

Diagonal cross pein 

I can work with wood, just do not like to. Fills the shop up with dust (everywhere) have to change respirator filters, etc, etc..

Oh, handle is hickory, just used my 5" Metabo hand grinder to fit & grrrind the wood down. Then touch up on the belt sander. Flame hardened & slathered on some boiled linseed oil.

 

Can mods place this glowing head as avatar please?

took some photos while forging today, from about 80% completed  made two chef knives started from 1" x 7" round    01 tool steel     2.54cm  x  17.78cm

Full integral,  Brute de Forge update this when they get completely finished.

any thoughts?

More just wondering how you get to full integral from there. Do you need to upset the tang width-wise?

As in a bolster? Perhaps my terminology is off? don't know. 

Just planned on hammering in the transition, then grinding the blade per usual.

Chef knife 01 tool steel

my take on  "Brute de Forge" from a 1" - 2.54 cm round bar. 

14 1/4" 36.195cm overall
blade 7 1/2" 19.05cm .. 2" 5.08cm at the heal. taper to 1 3/4" 4.445cm at tip 
blade is 1/16" 1.5875mm thick
handle is a generous 6 1/2" 16.51cm long, 1" 2.54cm wide (average) 
 

hope my metric conversions are precise
