Forced patina and texture

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I have been playing around with vinegar, bluing agents etc. i want to give my blades an antique finish. I watched a video that seems to show a very effective method but with no explanation. Can anyone explain the process shown here.

He cleaned the blade, than used birchwood casey perma blue, he then soaked the blade in vinegar until rust formed, than put the blade in boiling water (in rust bluing it's best to use distilled water), then brushed it back.

Also check out Casey Birchwood "Plumb Brown" It's a heat activated finish and a bit more tricky than the cold blue but it creates an "old timey" finish.
