First Knife Question

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I’m new to the forum and bladesmithing, thanks for having me.

This is my first attempt at forging a knife, i only pinned this two times, I realize nowI should have had another pin. Can I add a third pin now without cracking the wood scales?

Welcome aboard!

The real question here is, is the tang hardened up near the blade?  If so, you may not be able to drill a hole in it.  The scales will take care of themselves.  If the tang is too hard to drill, the bit will wander a bit and make the hole in the scale too big, plus it'll dull or even break the bit.

It depends if your tang has hardened or not. I personally wouldn't bother trying because you'll only know once your scale has been drilled.

Edit: opps, Alan was a faster ninja
