Iron worker conversion

Recommended Posts

Has anyone here ever taken a used ironworker and made custom dies for it to convert an ironworker into a forging press???

If you have how has it been working for you??  Link below is the type of ironworker I am looking at

I have had the same thoughts as well.... it seems like it would be a much more affordable option, and easier than modifying a log splitter or something like it. I have been keeping my eyes open for an old Metal Muncher or Scotchman or something because then you have multiple capabilities with one machine.

As long as it's a hydraulic model it would work, you just might be limited in how tall your billet can be.

Do not try to convert a mechanical one.  Much like a punch press, the mechanical ones have to complete the cycle and will do so, which means something is going to break in a spectacular fashion.
