Finally able to get this order done and sharpenedafter hold-ups with the handle material. A full set of the kitchen knives plus a 1911 grip set from the little 3 inch peeler through the His n Hers table knives, 4 inch and 5 1/2 inc general purpose, 5 1/2 inchh chef, 7 1/2 inch chef, 71/2 inch nakiri to the bearded chef. All have blades of croyo treated NitroV (bar the bearded chef that was freezer treated as it dosent fit in the neck of the liquid nitrogen container) and all with Resin Ivory handles.
I started again on the 1911 grip set as I wasn;t happy with the first set and it was night and day difference on the mill as oppsed to the dripp press.

A question for you Garry...

What are you using for the finger hole on the bearded chef?

finger hole.JPG

Bit? diamond hole saw?

What is the diameter?

I drill two holes at 1 3/16 with a hole saw and leave the web in for hardening and grinding to eliminate the warps I was getting when I fully shaped first.

Ooh, that's the GOOD resin ivory with the Shreger lines!  I haven't used any of that yet, but I believe I shall order some...

I had ordered the 3/8 and 1/4 inch scales but they were "lost" in transit along with 40 belts and pinstock etc, but when I wanted to order more (from USA Knifemakers) there was only the blocks available which is what these handles are cut from. I had just finished the set when the "lost" package arrived 2 months late so I had a comparrison betwen the two. There are more pronounced Shreger lines in the blocks than in the scales and I much prefer the subtlty of the scales, so having a number of scales sets in both 3/8 and a 1/4 I have plenty on hand for a while now. The 1911 grip set was made from the scales

That is very good to know, thank you!  I did see some with overly-strong lines.  I was looking at it here: https://guitarpartsandmore.com/mainCategory.php?Resin-Ivory-trade-Knife-Scales-Handles-64

Those guys have all sorts of interesting stuff in their various sub-categories.  Go to their homepage and scroll down.  Of course, you'd have to order a lot to make shipping to NZ worthwhile.

I get everything I need from various sources sent to my agent and he packages it all in the one box to send over so shipping is reduced. I will have a good look through what they have

The light rescue set is done with the 11/64 / 4.3mm 1075 nipple nosed knife with is 3 inch straight section blade (9 1/4 in OAL) for those situations where a point is not desired (seat belt or tight tie etc) The bare handle without scales is for compact carry while the radiused edges still give a good hold for comfortable use.
The flat head lever made from 1/4" / 6.3mm 5160 has the screwdriver tip on the 3 7/8 blade (8 inch OAL) that also doubles as a stout lever for the situations where this may be necessary. The gutted parra cord wrap gives enough bulk and very good grip for serious use of this handy accessory in the piggy back leather sheath, as it is more compact than a kydex one would be. Both tools are stone washed but may look into cerakote if the demand is there for it.

That's a beaut Garry.

it is becoming my new favourite to make and will do one for myself (I dont have enough knives :D) when a supply of bone scales come in. There is some royal blue and brown cammel bone sets coming that I hope are as nice in hand as they look on the website so will have to decide what to match it with.

Two Pocket Rangers. One has Impala jigged buffalo horn c]scales over red G10 liners on the 5 in SS damascus blade and the other has Cherry Burl over CB buffalo horn bolsters on the 5 in 1095 carbon blade

IMG_0823.JPG

IMG_0826.JPG

and a Bird and Trout with rough jigged dyed bone scales on the 4 1/4 in cryo treated NitroV SS blade

I was dissapointed in the scales as theyhad a nice royal blue on each end but thay was only a surface dye and was ground off with the shaping so I will have to except the other 9 scale sets I have will be the same. Not a bad look in itself , just not what I had expected

A little fruit knife for the kitchen with spilled milk acrylic on the 3 in cryo treated NitroV SS blade

This is another of the sheep shear blades with figured Eucalyptus handle and copper pins

IMG_0836.JPG

IMG_0835.JPG

And a roughy to finish with this piece of antler on the 5 in 1084 HC blade. Had the knife sitting for a while but was never happy with the bulk of the antler handle so gave it a severe re-shape and it feels much better in hand and it will serve for a hunter now. Will have to do some tidy up on it before the herritage day display.
