Is there is any other alternative method to soften the material other than annealing process?

Why do you want/need to soften the material?  The heat treater won't care.   

That said, there is no way to anneal/normalize ferrous metals without heat, that I know of.

So, just for the record: the fact that it does work still should not be taken as definitive proof that you are not crazy.
