Joël Mercier
#1500 done on one side. The rust spot under my thumb is actually on the floor. This is as high as I'm going to go
Brian Dougherty
Wow, it took me a minute to figure out what was going on there. That's a well executed 1500 grit. 1 -Brian

Joël Mercier
I decided to take some time off blade finishing and started working on the "habaki" or however it can be called. Since I don't have the tools to solder and I don't know better, I'm doing it from a solid bar of copper... That's most likely a bad idea, but I think I can pull this off Edited April 22, 2020 by Joël Mercier
Zeb Camper
I'm sure you can pull this off, but you can also hard solder right in your propane forge. I've used super glue to hold hard solder and parts in place long enough to melt it. But this looks like you could wrap thin copper around and just do one solder joint. I make habakis ether by holding them shut with tongs, or iron wire. You can slide a stick of hard solder inside, and just get it to melt Lookin good! Joël Mercier
The problem is my forge is at work and I spend my days at home with the kids. But that's something I'll try eventually, for sure! I definitely took the uselessly extra long road to make this. This is nuts!

Joël Mercier
I decided it was going to seat at both the shoulders and the choil for extra strength. It may be unsightly and I later decide to remove the choil seat... Edited April 23, 2020 by Joël Mercier
Joël Mercier
I won't be doing that again anytime soon. It works, but that's too much filing for my taste!

jake cleland
I just scrolled backwards through that, and it was insane. 1 1 Jake Cleland - Skye Knives www.knifemaker.co.uk "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." Joël Mercier
Thanks Wes! Now some work on Zeb's wrought chain link. I'm filing it flat and square so everything will be true and straight(hopefully). The file guide helped me get the first face perfectly flat. Zeb Camper
You're getting pretty hard core with the finitiob! I saw that video with the kitchen knife catching hairs. I'm like: "Dang!"
Joshua States
I hadn't stopped by this thread since sometime in mid-March and have been scrolling through this with total amazement. I have to agree with Jake Cleland. This is insane! (in a good way) “So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. I've been there before.” The only bad experience is the one from which you learn nothing.
