So I posted a thread on the Accu-test HRc tester which is super simple with a ball drop.. 

This unit ramps up some with more accurate results possible and is really a neat unit for what it does. 

It basically takes a larger lab type HRc tester and moves it into a hand held unit.   

Its basically designed like a Micrometer but with an extra arm that rests on the dial indicator..  When the correct pressure is applied it opens the C some amount and when the pressure is removed it tells the difference between the depth of penetrator for that given pressure..  Much like a Lab machine in principal, but in a very small package. 

This unit has several anvils, an extension and several alum test blocks, a brass one and 2 steel 60HRc and 33HRc.

I have an old one and I looked into getting it refurbished, but they won't touch units over a certain age.  There's a serial number cutoff they don't go beyond listed on their website. Mine is definitely too old.

Ah, that is a bummer..   It seems many places now won't do older items.. 

Post up a photo or the like if you don't mind.. 

What is it doing or not doing?  Not accurate or different problem?
