That was awesome work Niels!! I remember watching your videos from way back. Probably one of my favorite series was you trying to rediscover the ancient procedure for making wootz. I also really enjoyed the seax you made from your trial attempts. Did you ever achieve a formula for wootz that you felt fit the bill??

Unfortunately, it's a two person operation and takes a reasonable amount of time. It's been a couple of years since I last tried. I wouldn't say I got to a place where it was completely reproducible. On the other hand as a weekend hobby, it means there is a never ending list of potential projects for me.

I do remember you said the seax steel showed dendritic growth instead of the ripples wootz shows. I've wondered if those ripples came from how they consolidated their pucks after firing them.
