Chris Christenberry
I'm needing some 3/8" thick copper about 1 1/4" wide, in bar form. I've been to every scrap recycling business in my area and am having no luck. No luck at all. Anyone have any ideas where to search for Copper? (other than the hills of Arizona) Chris www.chrischristenberry.com WHEW!!! If I could only know now what I "thought" I knew back then.................... Chris Christenberry
Yup, I know. Thanks. I'm just needing enough to make a bolster. Smallest piece I can buy from On-line will cost over $50. I'd rather look for a small piece at a scrap yard. Was just wondering if someone had an idea other than a scrap yard since I'm striking out. Don Abbott
Let me check this evening. I might be able to hook you up. I've got some I think is 1/2" x 2" I'll let you know in the morning.
Alex Middleton
I don't have anything that thick. If nobody else can help, you can get a 6" chunk from McMaster-Carr for $25 and some change. https://www.mcmaster.com/8964K28-8964K285/ You have to add on for shipping, which unfortunately doesn't ever seem to be cheap through them.
Chris Christenberry
Thanks guys. We've got a McMaster Carr in Oklahoma City....................(no shipping) I looked through their catalog, but didn't find that offering, Alex. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Don't mind buying a 6" piece, but just couldn't see spending all that money on a 12" piece. Thanks a million. Chris www.chrischristenberry.com WHEW!!! Jerrod Miller
Electric supply places may be able to help, too. Industrial bus bars can get pretty big. Places like Graybar may be able to get you what you need or point you to a local contractor that may deal in scrap components.
Brian Dougherty
A local industrial electrical supply house might have some buss bar scraps they would be willing to cut a deal on. Chris Christenberry
"Buss Bars"!!!!! I didn't think of that. Just found out McMaster-Carr closed their place in Oklahoma City, so I'll check out the electrical supplies. Thanks for the tip, guys. Chris www.chrischristenberry.com WHEW!!! Jaron Martindale
How Long do you need? I've got a place here in Oregon http://www.coyotesteel.com/ who sells stock like that on the regular. you can call them and see about ordering it for a more sustainable supplier, or if its a one-time thing I can go grab some and ship it to you. I would grab myself some too, so cost would just be shipping to you and whatever your length ends up costing (normally around 1/2-2/3 the cost mcmaster and onlinemetals in my experience). Here's hoping you find a local place though!
Ted Stocksdale
Did you ever get your copper? I got the scrap box from Online. None of these are all that long, though (this is a box of cut-offs), and nothing is exactly what you wanted, but the thicker pieces I got are 1/2 x 1/2 3/8 x 3/4 3/4 x 1 1/2 If you still need it, how long of a piece?
Chris Christenberry
Thanks, guys. I bought a piece from Don Abbott of this site...............................only my old fingers missed a key and gave him the wrong mailing address...................so it was "un-deliverable". It'll soon be on it's way back to me........if the weather lets up. 1 Chris www.chrischristenberry.com WHEW!!! If I could only know now what I "thought" I knew back then....................
