billyO
Hello all. I hope everyone is staying safe. questions: 1) Are we expected/supposed to do WIPs for this? (or: am I supposed to try to remember to take the phone out and take pictures?) and 2) How much are we allowed to mess around with the cubic inch theme? (perhaps a picture would help...) Does my cubic inch have to start as a rectangle of flat stock, or can I shape it like the black polygon above to maximize blade length/minimize forging for the tang? Thanks and have fun! 1 RIP Bear....be free! as always peace and love billyO
Brian Dougherty
My interpretation is that the volume simply needs to be a cubic inch. I think any shape you want to start with is fine. Although if you happened to find a finished blade that was a cubic inch in volume, as your starting point, we would probably give you some grief. Extravagant WIPs are not required, but a few pics along the way would be greatly appreciated by the masses -Brian
billyO
Thanks, Brian. I'm thinking about trying my first take down handle using clevis pins that (I think) Joshua States mentioned a while ago... Joshua States
I am anxious to see this one happen. If for no other reason, because I have no idea what you are referring to. I do remember someone (maybe Brian Dougherty?) doing a takedown that had a removeable pin through the tang and a butt cap. The clevis pin has me completely stymied though. “So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. I've been there before.” The only bad experience is the one from which you learn nothing. Brian Dougherty
Wasn't me either. I think Karl Andresen does things like that. It's a rare day when someone confuses my work with his however! -Brian
