Stolen photos

While back I was working really hard to improve my photography skills.  I've apparently have been successful, I've come across two more sites using my photos.  One was the Thor's hammer again and the other a bottle opener.  It almost makes me want to return to facebook so I can post nasty but deserved comments about them.

Well, at least you know they were good!

Several years ago a Chinese or Pakistani cutlery company stole not just pictures, but the entire design, of a knife Jake Cleland posted here.  Theft, but also a compliment if you choose to be positive about it.

ABS MS Brion Tomberlin is always posting links on FB to accounts that steal photos of other makers' works and try to get him to accept a friend request. It is amazing how many people accept FB friend requests from unknown people. Brion also posts a short phrase something like "26 mutual friends. Be more careful folks".

This is one of the bad things about social media. If your account is public, anyone can see whatever you post and copy the photo. Then they can pass it off as their own work.

This is why I have two FB pages. One is mostly personal stuff and I will post some WIP shots along the way, but rarely finished work. Most of my finished work gets posted in private groups sites or on my private page.

“So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. I've been there before.”

The only bad experience is the one from which you learn nothing.

Sorry to hear the hijacked your pictures. It is pretty much a given that anything you post of the net is going to be stolen at some time! About the only thing you can do is put a watermark on your photos but that still doesn't stop someone from stealing them and posting with the watermark on it! The only recourse is usually more trouble than it is worth! https://www.visualwatermark.com/help/

I am nobody in the world of knifemaking but I see photos of mine popping up all the time. I even ran across one of my photos that had a Photobucket water mark the other day! I haven't used Photobucket in years since I told them to take their greed and stuff it..............

I have to agree with Alan, at least you know they were good! Sorry I don't have better suggestions! ashamed.jpg

C Craft Customs ~~~ With every custom knife I build I try to accomplish three things. I want that knife to look so good you just have to pick it up, feel so good in your hand you can't wait to try it, and once you use it, you never want to put it down ! If I capture those three factors in each knife I build, I am assured the knife will become a piece that is used and treasured by its owner! ~~~ C Craft

Thanks for more reasons not to do FaceBook.

Douig

I deleted my FaceBalls profile recently, I was told to take down posts, tried to figure who to unfriend & block, and realized it all has to go.....

I had a personal page and a separate one for my knives, but unfortunately they are connected so if one goes the other follows.  Lost a lot of photos and videos (and followers) in the process unfortunately.

Was planning on a cool-down period then start a new page for knives only, but every day without FB makes that seem less likely.

It is a pity the facebook is such a poisonous place, because now I'm missing out on the good parts as well.  I have an elderly aunt who is one of my (knives) biggest fans, now she she doesn't see my work anymore.

Google used to have a social media thing (not sure what it is/was called) but it used to let you categorise posts and set who had access to what categories. Personally I stay off all social media. Quite a few people I’ve met (and me for that matter) say the feel ‘liberated’ after giving up social media.

I've been FB free for almost a year now, and don't plan on going back.  (Seems like there should be some sort of chip for that)  Like you, however, I miss communicating with my distant family, which was the only reason I ever got on there in the first place.  However, even if I didn't go looking for the vitriol myself, it was creeping in through my family members.  It just isn't worth it for me to go back to.  I equate FaceBook to that sore in your mouth.  You know, the one you can't stop touching with your tongue...

I have a day job, and only make knives for fun.  I feel for those of you who need to keep up with social media to make a living.  It's a shame that human nature eventually ruined a good thing.

Indeed, many good people I will never have contact with again.

I made some very good friends during the years that fly fishing was my living obsession, met several of them from all over the world, and sadly FB was the only way to stay in contact as numbers change through the years.

I'm in the same boat as far as day job vs hobby is concerned, but my day job is even more poisonous than FB, pension a joke and retirement something that only happens in the harry potter universe.......knives is about my only plan B for making a living when a day job is no longer an option.
With my 4 followers on IG and the FB page gone I've taken a huge step back as far as marketing is concerned.

You have more followers than I do, and you don't even use hashtags!
