Been playing with a new design for police rescue. Will be from cryo treated 4.8mm NitroV so plenty stout and with the low saber grind will leave a good edge. The glass breaker behind the handle is square to the centerline so will be a platform to hammer against if the need is to drive the tip into a vehicle pannel and I may even look at kydex for the sheath as the micarta handle will be another first with textured/scalloped finish.

I really like this!
I work Dispatch for a local Sheriff's Office and I've had a few requests for knives.  Most of them have been geared towards being a last ditch resort in a fight, but I like the idea of the rescue knife!  I can't wait to see it all done!

Have got the first one ready to foil wrap and heat treat but will wait till I get more liquid nitrogen before I go ahead with that.

Thanks for putting that together Garry.  I'm looking forward to the next installment.  I really like your grinder and grinding jig.  Relatively simple, yet extremely effective!

Garry,

As I try to get more efficient and keep things moving at a more productive pace, I find your work very inspirational.

I still enjoy the one-off "create as you go" pieces, but the multiple/identicals is a whole different discipline.

Thanks for taking the time to share.

If we make everything we can there is more funds for the things we cant make and in reality the grinder is a simple make that most anyone can do.

Couple of different ones today. The first pair of the police rescue knives done and while it was the first time I had done the texturing it was almost exceptable but they will do for trial knives and the texturing is something I can work on. Black and OD canvas micarta on the NitroV stainless blades. Next is the kydex sheaths so something else to learn as I go.

Had a go at the kydex sheaths and after a bit of a fail with the first atempt I learned that a wire rack in the oven was not the best and the temp was a bit high. next two were ok but still have a bit of improvment to go.

I think I have found the solution for the rescue knife so I can do the one sheath and have it able to be either right or left hand with a simple change of screws and the belt loop from one side to the other. In the first pic you can see that the screws are too long but I have the correct length on the overnight courier. Having the wrap arround the sheath with the set of three holes as the attachment for the belt loop on the back and my makers mark on the front makes this all work without the bulky attachments that are often used. First two have taken a while but with them under my belt I think I can be reasonably efficient with any future ones. Took a couple of days to work through all the ways and means but R&D is always a satisfying time when the results come as intended. I will do a bit more video on this part of it to finish out part two on this knife.

Have got the pattern sorted and a leather sheath made as an option for the rescue knife. The knife sits a little deeper into the leather than it does with the kydex.
