Bog oak deba

Recommended Posts

I finished this the other day and forgot the forum existed before I could post it. It has a 5-3/4" blade that's 5/16" thick at the spine. I hollow ground one side with an 18" radius to make sharpening easy.  The handle is bog oak with a museum fit buffalo horn bolster.

This thing is terrifyingly sharp. I was visiting a friend of mine and he gave me a length of 1+" rope to practice slicing through and this short little knife went through it like butter. Here's a short video of the action:  https://www.instagram.com/reel/CpU_DUzALEP/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=

I have to make one of those. How do you heatreat that if that is one sided grind? Does it need to be pre bent?

I brought it to 1550 (for 1095) and quenched like any other knife. I left the edge fairly thick before grinding. I ground the radius on the flat side after heat treatment. The closer you get to an edge before you start polishing, the better. Your polishing is your sharpening.
