The longer guard, I'm assuming that's what it is,  seems like it would catch an opponent's blade deflected by the spine of the attached blade.  The shorter guard with the ring seems like it would set too close  to the handle.  I will watch this with interest.

Forged flat, pierced and ground, shaped and then tumbled for a day or so.  I'll give it some sort of surface treatment before final assembly.

You could have something there.  That guard could be upside down on the anvil which would make the longer of the two guards a a knuckle guard.

I built it with the closed loop at the top, but now I have to have a look at it the other way.

Doug, I did try it out with the closed loop down, it would work, but I don't like it with the blade I have.  I'm hanging onto the idea for something else, maybe a little bigger as a finger ring.

One more teaser pic.  Lignum Vitae and Buffalo horn.  Sanded to 400 and buffed with carnuba/beeswax combo
