Bob Bryenton
working on this 10" bowie fighter: Originally I was going to just do a handle but as I play with it, thinking of adding a subhilt? Thoughts? 2 Bob Bryenton Solar Storm https://www.solarstorm.ca bob@solarstorm.ca
doc blues
Sub hilts really have no purpose except to tear up your finger , although they can look cool. Just my opinion
Joshua States
A sub-hilt is an exercise in advanced fit and finish. Like Doc says, they can be rather uncomfortable in use, but they do look cool. I think the key to a comfortable sub-hilt is making the rear guard narrower, side to side, than the forward one. What have you got to lose by trying? Not much really. However, the process of putting all of that together so it works, feels comfortable, and is finished well will teach you things and grow your skills. If you do choose to go that route, I would very much like to watch the process. “So I'm lightin' out for the territory, ahead of the scared and the weak and the mean spirited, because Aunt Sally is fixin’ to adopt me and civilize me, and I can't stand it. I've been there before.” The only bad experience is the one from which you learn nothing. Bob Bryenton
Thanks for the feedback. I will try and take some pics along the way. I suck at doing videos because keep failing to stay in frame, or move in front of the camera etc. 1 Bob Bryenton Solar Storm https://www.solarstorm.ca bob@solarstorm.ca
Bob Bryenton
So subhilts suck messed around with some clay first trying to get something comfortable to work with the setup I already had. To those that do subhilts I tip my hat to you, but everything I tried just felt awkward. So the end result is no subhilt Bob Bryenton Solar Storm https://www.solarstorm.ca bob@solarstorm.ca
