Will Leavitt
Was wondering how long does black pipe last during heat treat salt pot use. I'm not building one any time soon but I've read that people use stainless for it's durability. How long are we talking about black pipe lasting, 1 or 2 heat treats, a month or more?? Thanks, Will
Howard Clark
As long as it takes to scale away on the outside enough to leak. There won't be a definitive answer, too many variables. Not long at all in a high temperature (austenitizing) application. Fine for low temp (quenching and tempering) nitrate salts. Last a long time there.
