Sifting through boxes of tooling from a bygone age. These are small dies that were wedged into the top of an anvil for the forging of ligatures and other elements of surgical tools, mostly different types of forceps. I bought these as part of a job lot from a (thriving) surgical tool company, so it is a strange distinction that unlike most of the many tools that have passed through my hands over the years, in this case I am the first custodian who doesn't quite know what these strange and beautiful things are for.
